The Money in the Bank has been one of my favorite PPVs ever since its inception. We get to see an incredible ladder match between a lot of competitors. To top things off, the winner can cash in their briefcase for a chance to become world champion in one years’ time. We also had four championship matches to go along with the ladder matches. Theory defended his United States Championship against Bobby Lashley. The Usos put up their Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship against the Street Profits. Bianca Belair put her raw Women’s title on the line against Carmella. Ronda Rousey defended her Smackdown Women’s Championship against Natalya. Let’s see how the 2022 Money in the Bank premium live event turned out.
We had the Ladies Money in the Bank match kick things off for the evening. Liv Morgan, Shotzi, Raquel Rodriguez, Asuka, Becky Lynch, Lacey Evans, and Alexa Bliss compete. This is the match where Shotzi was criticized and even deleted her Twitter account for. In one instance, Shotzi and Bliss were going at it and the ladder fell on top of Bliss. Bliss later defended Shotzi, which was the right move. The biggest spot came when Becky Lynch did the top-of-the-ladder leg drop onto Asuka while she lay on the bridged ladder. The ladder didn’t break, but it was still a dangerous and crazy spot. In the end, Liv Morgan in a crazy finished as she knocked down Becky Lynch to retrieve the briefcase. Women’s Money in the Bank Winner: Liv Morgan
Match Rating: 3.5/5- Solid opener and the right person won the match.
We had Theory defending his United States championship against Bobby Lashley. These two have been feuding for a few weeks now. Theory is the handpicked guy of the future and Lashley is coming off a feud with Omos & MVP. The crowd was hot for Lashley from the beginning of the match. The match didn’t have many high spots, they just beat the hell out of each other. Theory continues to grow on me as I wasn’t a big fan of his while in NXT. Lashley would reverse the finisher of Theory into the Hurt Lock. Theory would tap out pretty quickly and Lashley won the title. After the match, Lashley had a bloody mouth after such a physical contest. Winner and New United States Champion: Bobby Lashley
Match Rating: 3.75/5
We had the Bianca Belair defending her Raw Women’s Championship against Carmella. Belair was originally supposed to defend against Rhea Ripley. Ripley has been out with a brain injury. Carmella was the winner of a Fatal 4-Way on Raw a few weeks ago. Carmella proved why she’s a former champion by having several near-falls in the bout. Belair used her quickness and strength to keep Carmella grounded. Bianca showed why she’s one of the better wrestlers on the roster. She countered everything Carmella threw her way. In the end, Belair used her strength to retain her championship. After the match, Carmella attacked Belair and many thought Morgan would cash in her contract, but she didn’t. Winner and Still Raw Women Champ: Bianca Belair
Match Rating: 3/5
We had the Usos defending their Undisputed WWE Tag Team titles against the Street Profits. These are two of the best teams in the WWE and they proved it with this instant classic. Before the match, the announcers teased dissension between the Profits. It has been rumored that they are going to be broken up and Montez Ford is in line for a major push. As far as the match goes, the action was everywhere from in the ring to on the floor. The Profits were seconds away from winning the titles on multiple occasions. Ford impressed, but Dawkins has also looked great over the last few months. In what has been called one of the tag matches of the year, the Usos retained with the 1-D on Ford. Winners and Still Undisputed WWE Tag Champs: The Usos
Match Rating: 4.5/5
Ronda Rousey put her on Smackdown Women’s Championship on the line against Natalya. The two had been feuding for the last few weeks heading into this match. Natalya was banking on the Sharpshooter while Rousey touted her armbar. Rousey has improved a lot in the ring, but Natalya is a great vet to put against her. In the end, Rousey retained her championship on her hurt knee. After the match, Morgan went to cash in her contract, but Rousey put her in the ankle lock. Morgan reversed it and rolled up Rousey to become the new champ. Winner and New Smackdown Women’s Champ: Liv Morgan
Match Rating: 4/5- This was well-deserved because Morgan has worked her ass off and it shows in the ring. Rousey giving her the title and hugging her was a nice gesture.
We had the Men’s Money in the Bank match as the main event. Riddle, Seth Rollins, Sheamus, Drew McIntyre, Omos, Madcap Moss, and Sami Zayn were introduced. Adam Pierce made his way to the stage and introduced an 8th competitor, and it was Theory. Omos dominated at the beginning, but later on they banded together to powerbomb him through the announce table. Riddle hit a huge RKO off the top of the ladder on Rollins. There were some really cool moments throughout this match. McIntyre, Riddle and Rollins were the favorites heading into the match and they all almost had the briefcase. In the end, Theory climbed the ladder when everyone was laid out to retrieve the briefcase. Men Money in the Bank Winner: Theory
Match Rating: 4/5
Overall Rating: 7.5/10- This was an amazing event and one that I thoroughly enjoyed. Below are my top 3 moments from the Money in the Bank PLE.
- Usos© vs. Street Profits
- Liv Morgan Cashing in Her Contract and Winning the Smackdown Women’s Title
