Week 1 is in the books and it was one to remember. We had a tie between the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts. We almost had another one in the Pittsburgh and Cincinnati game. The Steelers hit a field goal as time expired at the end of OT to beat the Bengals. Buffalo looks like the Super Bowl contenders many have them being in their rout over the Rams. The Detroit Lions showed how feisty they are in their game against the Eagles where they barely loss. Patrick Mahomes put away any doubt he would struggle without Tyreek Hill against the Cardinals. Lamar Jackson showed the Baltimore Ravens why they need to pay him in their win over the New York Jets. Cleveland edged Carolina with a last second field goal in their game against former QB Baker Mayfield and the Carolina Panthers.
Aaron Rodgers struggled with the new receiving core as the Packers fell to Minnesota 23-7. In a battle between two AFC West foes, it came down to the wire but the Chargers upended the Raiders. Dallas fell to Tampa Bay on Sunday Night and Dak Prescott injured his hand in the process. In his return to Seattle, Russell Wilson and the Broncos was upset by the Seahawks. My record was 10-5 because the tie didn’t count. My winning percentage is 66.7% entering Week 2 of the 2022 NFL season. I’ll predict at least my 8 personal top games every week, but they’ll include the Thursday, Sunday, and Monday night games. Let’s get this thing started!
We kick off the 2022 Week 2 NFL campaign off with a bang between two Super Bowl favorites from the AFC West. The Los Angeles Chargers will head to the Midwest to battle the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chargers and Chiefs both came away with victories in Week 1. Los Angeles came away with an impressive win over another division rival in the Las Vegas Raiders. The health of Keenan Allen is an issue for this Chargers team. The defense is as good as any other defense in the league. Patrick Mahomes proved that he’s arguably the best QB in the league without Tyreek Hill. Mahomes tossed 5 TDs while throwing for 360 yards in the season opener. How will this Chiefs offense fair against the Chargers defense? I’m picking Kansas City to get by the Chargers. Chiefs Win 27-24
We have a battle between my personal two top teams in the NFC South. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will travel to New Orleans to face the Saints. The Bucs took care of the Cowboys this past Sunday night. While Tom Brady is the point of emphasis, it was the running game that controlled the offense. Leonard Fournette looked great running the ball and the defense was dominant from the start of the game. Can the Bucs repeat their Sunday Night performance in New Orleans? The Saints had a great come from behind win over the Falcons. New Orleans trailed by 16 points before Will Lutz nailed the game winning field goal to win 27-26. Michael Thomas returned and caught 2 TDs as he didn’t miss a beat. I’m picking the Saints to beat the Bucs. Saints Win 24-21
We head back to the AFC for this matchup between two teams that came away with wins opening week. The Miami Dolphins travels north to Baltimore to battle the Ravens. Miami looked great in their win over the New England Patriots. Tua played mistake-free ball and the defense was all over the field. The Dolphins will try to keep pace with the Bills this season, so can they beat the Ravens? Can the defense slow down Lamar Jackson? Speaking of Lamar Jackson, many people think he’s playing with a chip on his shoulders. Lamar Jackson didn’t get the new contract and he’s playing on the final year of his rookie deal. Can Lamar and the Ravens make it 2-0 to start the season? I’m picking Baltimore to leave with the victory over Miami. Ravens Win 23-17
We stay in the AFC as the Pittsburgh Steelers will host the New England Patriots. The Patriots offense fell flat last week against the Dolphins. The loss was bad enough, but now they have questions about the health of Mac Jones. Jones is now dealing with a back injury, and we don’t know how severe it is. The Patriots defense wasn’t bad as they didn’t give up big plays from the speedsters of the Dolphins. Pittsburgh beat division rival Cincinnati with a last-second field goal in OT. The Steelers won the game, but they may have lost their defensive leader for the season. It is believed that reigning defensive player of the year T.J. Watt torn his pec during the contest. This could have huge implications for the Steelers and their defense. I’m picking Pittsburgh to fall to New England in a close one. Patriots Win 20-19
We have a battle between teams that came out of Week 1 with losses. The Cincinnati Bengals will travel to Dallas to battle the Cowboys. Cincinnati opened the season with a nail-biting loss at home to the Steelers. Joe Burrow tossed 4 picks in their loss, but they still almost left with the win. The Bengals had injuries to two of their top three receivers in their loss. Can the Bengals overcome their loss and injuries to beat Dallas? Dallas looked bad in their loss to the Bucs and they loss Dak for up to 8 weeks. Cooper Rush will step in and hopefully prevent the Cowboys from going 0-2. This should be a great game with both teams wanting their first win, but Cincinnati will leave Dallas with the win. Bengals Win 31-20
We have the Sunday night game between two heated rivals out of the NFC North. The Chicago Bears travel to Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers. The Bears opened their season in terrible conditions with all the rain that hit Chicago. Chicago beat the 49ers, which surprised a lot of people. The defense looked great, and the offense struggled, but it was expected. On the other hand, Green Bay struggled against Minnesota and Aaron Rodgers looked human. Aaron Rodgers still has to get on the same page as his receivers or this will be a long year. The defense will be good enough to slow down the Bears offense. This could end up being a defensive battle. I’m taking Green Bay to win this one. Packers Win 19-17
We have the first of two Monday Night games this week. The Buffalo Bills will host the Tennessee Titans. The Titans are coming off a heartbreaking loss in their home opener against the Giants. Ryan Tannehill threw for over 260 yards and a couple of TDs in the loss. Derrick Henry rushed for 82 yards and if the Titans are going to be successful that number will need to be higher. Buffalo looked like Super Bowl favorites right out the gate. They manhandled the defending Super Bowl champions on the road. The offense and defense looked great, and the addition of Von Miller paid dividends immediately. Can the Bills bottle up Derrick Henry and the Titans offense? I’m thinking they will and leave with another victory. Bills Win 31-17
The second Monday night game will have the Minnesota Vikings heading to Philadelphia to face the Eagles. Minnesota is figured to be one of the better teams in the NFC this season. I’m picking them to win the NFC North and Justin Jefferson could have another historic season. The Eagles have revamped their defense and secondary during the offseason. Can the Vikings put up as many points as the Detroit Lions did the Eagles? Philadelphia’s offense looked great for the most part in their opener. They need to protect Jalen Hurts more and the defense will need to step it up. The starters on defense didn’t play any during preseason and it showed in their performance. Dalvin Cook and Justin Jefferson will be too much for them as they lose their home opener. Vikings Win 34-31
