Week 2 of the NFL season was crazy to say the least. Unfortunately, my record was 4-4 and my overall record falls to 14-9. The winning percentage dips from 66.7% to 60.9%. We had the Jets and Miami Dolphins orchestrating a pair of amazing come from behind victories. The Arizona Cardinals pulled off an amazing comeback win over the Las Vegas Raiders in OT. The Atlanta Falcons almost done the same to the defending champs, but the Rams held them off 31-27. The Falcons were down 28-3 to Los Angeles before mounting a comeback but fell short. Could the Detroit Lions be the real deal? The Lions put up 36 points in their win over the Commanders after they scored 35 against the Eagles. The Buccaneers defense proves to be in the running as the best after holding the Saints to 10 points.
The Bengals, Colts, Titans and Raiders all remain winless in the AFC. Those three teams were expected to be Super Bowl contenders at the start of the season. While the Bills, Chiefs and Dolphins are the only ones without a loss. In the NFC, Tampa Bay, Philadelphia, and New York Giants remain undefeated also. This week, I’ll be predicting a total of 9 games. Let’s see if I’ll have a better week this time around.
We kick things off with the Thursday night game between two AFC North rivals. The Pittsburgh Steelers travels to Cleveland to battle the Browns. Pittsburgh struggled on offense last week against New England. The defense played well as they held the Patriots offense to 17 points. They still lost the game and if the offense doesn’t produce, we could be seeing Kenny Pickett soon? Cleveland should be entering this game with a 2-0 record. They gave up 14 points in the last couple of minutes to fall the New York. Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt will be key for the Browns to pick up the win. The defense should be able to pressure Trubisky and hold off the Steelers for the win. Browns Win 20-17
We have a battle between the two top teams in the AFC East. The Buffalo Bills head to Miami to face the Dolphins. The Bills are looking like they’re the best team in the league. They dismantled the Titans on Monday Night football a week after beating down the Rams. Josh Allen is looking like he’s arguably the best QB in the league. The Bills defense is looking hungry, how will they fare against Tua and those speedy receivers? Miami pulled off an improbable comeback in their win over Baltimore. Tua tossed 6 TDs and Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle look unstoppable. Can the Dolphins defense put pressure on Tua? Can the CBs defend those dynamic receivers? This is a tough one, but I’m picking Buffalo to beat Miami. Bills Win 34-31
We have a battle between two teams that many figured be headed in opposite directions. The Detroit Lions will travel to Minnesota to take on the Vikings. The Lions have surprised many people around the league. Detroit has one of the best offenses in the league putting up at least 35 points in both games. Can the defense step up and contain this angry and high-powered Vikings offense? Minnesota will be angry coming into this game. They were beat down in Philadelphia by the Eagles on Monday Night. Justin Jefferson was shut down and so was Dalvin Cook. Could this happen in consecutive weeks? How will the Vikings defense respond to the explosive Lions offense? I’m picking Minnesota to rebound in this game. Vikings Win 31-21
We head back to the AFC in a battle between two of the better young signal callers in the league. Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars will head out west to take on Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers. Jacksonville is coming off one of the best games played in years. They shutout the Indianapolis Colts in a key early season AFC South showdown. With the Titans and Colts being winless, Jacksonville would like to create some cushion moving forward. The Chargers are coming off a tough loss to Kansas City. The main concern for them is the health of Justin Herbert because he was hurt in that game. They have said it’s damage to his rib cartilage and he should play this game. Either way, I’m picking Los Angeles to rebound and win. Chargers Win 28-17
We have a battle between two of the greatest QBs to ever do it. Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers will head down to Tampa to face the Bucs. Green Bay rebounded from their disastrous loss in the opening week to beat Chicago on Sunday Night. Green Bay did it with their stout defense and a heavy dose of Aaron Jones. Can Aaron Rodgers and these young receivers get on track against the tough Bucs defense? So far, Tampa Bay looks like one of the best teams in the league. Tom Brady isn’t the reason as it has more to do with the defense. Brady will be without his top weapon in Mike Evans because he’s suspended for this contest. In a close game I’m picking Tampa to get by the Packers. Bucs Win 24-21
The Sunday Night game is a battle between two teams that figure to make the playoffs. The San Francisco 49ers will head to Mile High Stadium to take on the Denver Broncos. The 49ers will have Jimmy Garoppolo back at the QB position after Trey Lance was lost for the season. After dropping their opener, the 49ers smothered the Seahawks on their way to the win. Will the Niners keep rolling with Jimmy G back in the saddle? Denver is one of my favorites in the AFC West, but they have been less than stellar in their two games. Russell Wilson is still trying to get used to the offense. On defense, they’re as good as advertised. They are dealing with a couple of injuries on both sides of the ball. I’m picking San Francisco to go on the road and win. 49ers Win 20-17
We head back to the AFC for this critical matchup between two of the conference’s better squads. The Baltimore Ravens will head to New England to take on the Patriots. The Ravens are coming off a heartbreaking loss to the Dolphins last week. Baltimore had the game in their palms, but the defense couldn’t stop Tua, Tyreek Hill or Jaylen Waddle. Can this Ravens team rebound from that loss in Miami? On the flip side, the Patriots gutted out a win in Pittsburgh against the Steelers. New England pressured Trubisky and didn’t allow any big plays. They also held Najee Harris in check, which is amazing seeing he’s one of my top 5 running backs in the league. They’ll have issues trying to keep Lamar Jackson in check and that’s why I’m picking Baltimore to win. Ravens Win 33-24
We have an NFC East battle on our hands as the Philadelphia Eagles travel to Washington to take on the Commanders. The Eagles had one of the more impressive outings last Monday in their win over Minnesota. Darius Slay had two picks and was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week. Jalen Hurts is turning heads with his arm and legs. Can the Eagles continue their momentum in Washington? Carson Wentz plays against the team that drafted him and gave him a massive extension. Wentz has played well for the Commanders as he’s one of the league leaders in passing yards. Can the Commanders break down the Eagles defense? How will the defense of Washington fare against the Eagles high-powered offense? I’m still rolling with Philadelphia to win this NFC East battle. Eagles Win 31-21
Speaking of the NFC East, we have the other two teams meeting up on Monday Night football. The Dallas Cowboys travel to New York to take on the undefeated Giants. There has been rumors that Dak Prescott could return for this game. The Cowboys offense is still trying to find itself, but the defense is another story. Micah Parsons has been dominating the opposing offensive line and he’s had two sacks in both games. New York has surprised many and Saquon Barkley is looking like the dominant back he can be. The Giants defense has also played well in the first two games. Will the Giants continue their run and leave MetLife Stadium 3-0? This is a tough one to call, but I’m riding with New York to win again. Giants Win 23-21
