Now that we have the Eastern Conference Finals out of the way, now it’s time to head out west. The Golden State Warriors will battle the Dallas Mavericks in the 2022 Western Conference Finals. Golden State eliminated Memphis in six games to advance to the Western Conference Finals. The Dallas Mavericks defeated the defending Western Conference champs in a grueling 7-game series. The Mavericks beat down the Suns on the road to get to this point. Dallas comes into this series fairly healthy with the exception of Tim Hardaway Jr. As far as the Warriors, they are hoping that Gary Payton Jr. can return at some point. Can Luka lead this Mavericks team on an improbable run to the NBA Finals? Will the Splash Brothers and this Warriors team make a return to the Finals? Let’s see who will represent the Western Conference in the Finals.
Golden State Warriors
The Warriors won their first championship with this core in 2015. They repeated in 2017 and 2018, but injuries have derailed them ever since. We all know about Klay Thompson and his fight to finally get back on the court. Steph Curry and Draymond Green have also experienced their fair share of injuries. Jordan Poole has emerged as one of the more streakier scorers in the league. Poole compliments the Splash Brothers and any of those three can go off at any time. With this run, we will start to look at the legacy of Steph Curry. If he were to win his fourth championship, people will start to move him up on their all-time greats list. The X factor will be Kevin Looney and how affective he will be against the Mavericks bigs. Will the Warriors advance to another NBA Finals?
Luka Doncic has arguably been the MVP of these playoffs. Dallas trading for Spencer Dinwiddie is what catapulted this team into a championship contender. Jalen Brunson have had moments in these playoffs where he showed he can lead a championship squad. I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t envision Dallas eliminating the Suns. With that said, Luka is a special player and there’s a reason why LeBron said that’s his favorite player under 25. This Mavs team have enough pieces to upset the Warriors and advance to the Finals. Davis Bertans, Reggie Bullock, Dorian Finney-Smith and Maxi Kleber will need to contribute significantly. Can the Mavs pull off another upset? Will Luka shine once again in another series? Can Spencer Dinwiddie continue his hot shooting?
Who Represents the Western Conference in the Finals?
Golden State enter this series having the home court advantage. As we saw with the Suns series, Dallas doesn’t view that as a disadvantage. The Mavs kind of look forward to going on the road and stirring things up with the opposing fans. As we saw in Game 7, Luka kind of loved the hostile atmosphere. We have a team of Hall-Of-Famers when it comes to the Warriors. They have the pedigree and they won’t make the same mistakes as Phoenix. With that said, I’m picking the Warriors to win this series and advance to the NBA Finals. Golden State Win Series 4-2
