6 Possible Destinations for Derek Carr

Derek Carr has probably played his final game in a Las Vegas Raiders uniform. The Raiders benched Carr a few weeks ago and he stepped away from the team. Recently, Carr posted a farewell message to the entire Raiders nation. After Las Vegas traded Davante Adams, we thought Carr would be with the Raiders for the foreseeable future. Adams and Carr were college teammates and close friends. For years, people who were fans never fully got behind him. He had started all but two games for the Raiders since the team drafted him 36th overall in 2014. During his nine years, Carr completed 64.6 percent of his passes for 35,222 yards, 217 touchdowns and 99 interceptions. In that order, those numbers rank 12th, fourth, seventh and third, respectively, among the 17 quarterbacks with at least 3,000 passing attempts from 2014-2022.  Below are 6 possible destinations for Derek Carr.

Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts have gone through a variety of veteran QBs the last three seasons. Philip Rivers came over from the Chargers three years ago. Rivers lead them to the playoffs, but retired after the season. Indianapolis traded for Carson Wentz as they were hoping he could be the answer. Wentz didn’t have a bad season, but it wasn’t what they were looking for. In the final game of the season, they lost to the Jaguars and didn’t make the playoffs. After trading Wentz to Washington they acquired Matt Ryan from Atlanta. This season with Ryan was worse than the previous two. They even benched Ryan a couple times during the season. Derek Carr would be an upgrade and he’s still only 31-years-old. The Colts have a decent offensive line and Jonathon Taylor is one of the best running backs in the league.

Carolina Panthers

Carolina is another team that could be in the market for a QB. They released Baker Mayfield earlier in the season. Sam Darnold came back from injury and played well. The Panthers finished the season strong and have about 3 ways to go. They could keep Sam Darnold and build around him for the future. They could bring in another veteran QB to fight for the starting job. Finally, they could use the NFL Draft to finally get a QB for the future. The Panthers currently have the 9th pick in the NFL Draft. They could stay there and possibly miss out on their potential QB or they could trade up. With some talented receivers, a decent line and a pair of good backs they could opt for a veteran. Derek Carr would make for a great addition and could overtake Darnold as the new QB in Carolina.

New Orleans Saints

New Orleans was decimated with injuries this past season. Towards the end of the season it seems like they turned things around. Unfortunately, it was too late and it seems like they will be looking for a new QB. Andy Dalton had his moments after Jameis Winston got injured. Taysom Hill isn’t the long-term solution as the signal caller. New Orleans doesn’t have a 1st round pick because it belongs to the Eagles. Derek Carr would be a major upgrade at the quarterback position. Carr would instant have a great, young receiving core. The question is cap space when it comes to bringing in Derek Carr.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tom Brady is a free agent after this season. Many believe that he will be leaving the Bucs, but will not retire just yet. Tampa Bay has the personnel to win immediately and not dive into a rebuilding situation. Next year, the Bucs will have a couple of their offensive linemen return from injury. Ryan Jensen could play as early as the Super Wild Card game against Dallas. The Bucs still have one of the better defenses in the league. Mike Evans and Chris Godwin remain two high caliber receivers.

Tennessee Titans

The Titans had a disappointing end to a promising season. They began the year as one of the best teams in the AFC. The season ended with them on a 7-game losing streak. Ryan Tannehill was hampered with an ankle injury that forced him to miss the last few games. Malik Willis filled in and the offense spurted with him at QB. Tennessee signed Joshua Dobbs with hopes of him leading them to the playoffs. With the uncertainty of Tannehill and Willis, the Titans look like a possible destination. The Titans have Derrick Henry to go along with a couple of young, promising receivers. Tennessee also has one of the tougher defenses in the league with a couple pieces returning from injury next season. Could the Titans make a run at Derrick Carr?

New York Jets

Last, but not least we have the New York Jets. The team says it will bring back Zach Wilson for his 3rd season. Joe Flacco could be on his way out and the Jets would need a veteran to add to the team. Mike White could be in the running also, but Derek Carr would be great with the Jets. The defense is solid and they have Garrett Wilson Jr. Wilson Jr. is one of the better WRs in the NFL. New York is headed in the right direction and many believe they’re a good QB away from making some noise. They finished the season on a 7-game losing streak. Many think Jimmy G. will land with the Jets because of his connection to Coach Robert Saleh.
