6 Potential Destinations for Amari Cooper

The Dallas Cowboys were one of the favorites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. They lost at home in the Wild Card round to the San Francisco 49ers. With the impending cap space issues, many thought that was the Cowboys best chance for a championship. With the new year looming on March 16th, the Cowboys are roughly $21 million dollars over the cap. The Cowboys will need to restructure some deals or release some players like Cooper. The first casualty seems like it will be Amari Cooper. Amari Cooper is owed $20 million dollars this upcoming season. He would be entering the third year of a 5-year, $100 million deal. With the Cowboys hoping to re-sing the likes of Michael Gallup and Dalton Schultz. With his imminent release, let’s check out 6 potential landing spots for Amari Cooper.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars will have the top pick once again in the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft. Jacksonville seems to have their franchise quarterback in last year’s top pick in Trevor Lawrence. They will need to surround him with some talent to get the best out of him. Amari Cooper could be that guy, and this could also begin to shift the culture. Jacksonville hired Doug Pederson as their new coach and he’s a winner. Pederson led the Eagles to their only Super Bowl championship 4 years ago. If Jacksonville were to bring in Cooper, this could be equivalent to the Browns signing Jarvis Landry years ago.

Chicago Bears

The Bears will be looking to replace free agent Allen Robinson. With the emergence of Darnell Mooney, the Bears will need to pair him with a veteran. Amari Cooper will help with the development of Justin Fields and help the offense strive. Signing him won’t impact Chicago’s potential draft-pick compensation next year and this could be an ideal landing spot for a receiver who wants to play with a quarterback like Prescott.

Detroit Lions

You may be thinking, the Detroit Lions………..who the hell would want to go there? Despite having a 3-13-1 record a season ago, you could see a difference in the way they played. Amon-Ra St. Brown exceeded expectations as a rookie with a team-leading 90 receptions for 912 yards. But St. Brown was a fourth-round pick for a reason, and the Lions need far more juice among their receiving threats. T.J. Hockenson is one of the better young tight ends in the NFL. If they were to sign Cooper and get help on the offensive line this team could be more intriguing.

Cleveland Browns

The Browns could release Jarvis Landry and that would hep out their cap situation. Cleveland has some young weapons on the offensive side and Cooper would be a welcomed addition. With all the injuries to Baker Mayfield, his health will be a selling point to any free agent. Cooper will likely be a little cheaper than the other top options on the market, allowing Cleveland to spend some money elsewhere on the roster to upgrade the talent on the team.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles targeted Cooper when he became a free agent, but he opted to remain with the Cowboys. The Eagles have since welcomed a new coaching staff, but they need a big time receiver. Philadelphia has a star in the making in DeVonta Smith. Smith set the Eagles rookie record in receiving yards last season, but he need help. If the Eagles were to sign Cooper that would go a long way in the development of Jalen Hurts. There have been rumors of Eagles upgrading their QB position, but Howie Roseman seems to be sticking with Hurts. Philadelphia has plenty of cap space to go after Amari Cooper when he’s released.

Miami Dolphins

If the Dolphins are hoping to get the best out of Tua, they need another big time receiver. Jalen Waddle proved to be worthy of such a high pick and adding Amari Cooper would be perfect. Cooper could be to Tua like DeVonta Smith was at Alabama. Cooper is an amazing route runner and he’s still young seeing he’s only 27 years old. Miami has over $60 million dollars in cap space and it’s Cooper’s hometown.
