8 Quarterbacks the New York Jets Should Sign or Trade For

If you follow sports and the NFL, then you know about the news of Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers went down after playing four snaps on Monday Night. Rodgers didn’t return and it’s confirmed that he’s done for the year with a ruptured Achilles. The New York Jets were banking on Rodgers and thought he was the missing piece to a championship. As we saw on Monday Night in their win over Buffalo, they are a championship team. With it being just Week 1, the Jets will need to bring in a veteran quarterback. Zach Wilson played well when he entered the game for Rodgers. If Wilson was the answer to their title admirations, they wouldn’t have traded for Aaron Rodgers. The question now is, who will they bring in? Below are 8 quarterbacks the New York Jets should sign or trade for.
Colt McCoy
Colt McCoy was slotted to be the Week 1 starter for the Arizona Cardinals. Arizona traded for Josh Dobbs and then released McCoy. McCoy isn’t the most appealing quarterback in the group, but he’s experienced. This would be the best team he’s been a part of.
Carson Wentz
Remember back in 2017, Carson Wentz was on his way to being the league MVP. Wentz was injured late in the season and hasn’t been the same ever since. Two years ago, he threw for 27 TDs and only 7 INTs for the Colts. Indianapolis traded him to Washington for the 2022 season. His time in Washington was unforgettable, but still think he’s worth bringing in. Joe Douglas makes the calls, and he has ties to Wentz. Joe Douglas came over from the Eagles so he’s familiar with Wentz.
Nick Foles
Joe Douglas also has ties to Nick Foles during his time with the Eagles. Unfortunately, Foles haven’t looked all that good in the past few years. Just last season, Foles started two games and tossed four picks in the process. Foles has been a reliable backup in the past. Nick Foles did win the Super Bowl MVP after he relieved Carson Wentz after his injury.
Jameis Winston
Some people may have given up on Jameis Winston, but I’m not one of them. In 2021, Winston tossed 14 TDs to just 3 INTs before tearing his ACL. When he returned in 2022, the Saints had already moved on. New Orleans signed Derek Carr to a huge contract to serve as their starter for the foreseeable future. Winston would bring a certain swag to New York, and he could become a fan favorite.
Taylor Heinicke
Taylor Heinicke was a solid starter for the Washington Commanders for a couple years. Heinicke signed as a free agent with his hometown Atlanta Falcons during the offseason. Heinicke is serving as the backup to Desmond Ridder in Atlanta. Who says the Falcons would listen to any trade offers for him? He’s appealing enough to at least gauge any interest.
Colin Kaepernick
We know this is probably the most far-fetched option for the Jets. We all know the history of Colin Kaepernick and the league. Kaepernick has stated multiple times he continues to work out every day. If there’s a place that would welcome Kaepernick back in the league, why not New York?
Joe Flacco
Joe Flacco started nine games over three seasons for the Jets. Bringing someone in that’s familiar with the staff is crucial. Flacco has stated he’s not retired and hope to sign with a team if a quarterback gets injured. Joe lacks mobility, but they have the weapons where he can get eh ball out quickly.
Kyler Murray
This is probably the most unrealistic one of them all. Murray is still rehabbing from his torn ACL late last season. Murray is expected to return at some point during this season. Many believe that the Cardinals are hoping to draft Caleb Williams out of USC next year. The contract extension Murray signed will kick in next season. Would the Jets want to commit that kind of money to Murray? How soon will Murray be ready?
Who do you think the Jets should bring into backup Wilson? Should they continue to go with Wilson since they drafted him so high? Are there any other QBs you would bring in? Leave some feedback below.
