Cool Relax by Jon B Turns 25 Years Old

The 90s is well known for the hip hop it produced and deservedly so, but R&B was also great. Groups like Jodeci, Jagged Edge, 112, Silk, H-Town, Shai, SWV and many more put out great music. Keith Sweat, R. Kelly, Ginuwine and others were putting out some great slow jams. Usher got his start in the 90s and his My Way album came out 25 years ago today. Jon B was another great artist dropping gems back in the 90s. Bonafide was his first album and it came out in 1995. The debut album went platinum and a lot of people said he sounded a lot like Babyface. Two years later, Jon B hit us with another great album and it was called Cool Relax. Cool Relax was another great album from Jon B and it garnered him another platinum plaque.

Don’t Say was the first single and it was a clean ballad from Jon B. Don’t Say is definitely one of the many highlights of the album. Despite being a dope record, it only peaked at #68 on the Billboard charts. Are You Still Down was his next single and it was one of his biggest hits. The platinum selling single featured the late, great 2Pac. Jon B has talked a lot about how his collaboration with Pac came about. He’s also stated that he held on to the record and didn’t release it due to his respect for Pac. Are You Still Down earned Jon B his first platinum plaque. It was also the final rap verse 2Pac ever laid before being gunned down in Vegas. They Don’t Know was the next single and this was another banger from Jon B. They Don’t Know garnered another platinum plaque for the star.

Jon B released two other singles to close out 1998. Cool Relax is my favorite joint from Jon B. Are You Still Down, Don’t Say, I Do, they Don’t Know and Pride & Joy are my top 5 tracks. Below you can peep the track listing and stream link for Cool Relax.

  3. Aw, this was an exceptionally good post. Finding the time and actual effort to produce a top notch article… but what can I say… I hesitate a whole lot and don’t manage to get anything done.
