Jay-Z Released American Gangster 15 Years Ago Today

Jay-Z has been heralded as one of the greatest to ever touch the mic. Jay-Z is also known for becoming a billionaire for his many investments and rap career. In the early-to-mid 2000s, he retired from hip hop to become a music executive after dropping the Black Album in 2003. In 2006, Jay-Z returned with his comeback project Kingdom Come and it was an album that many people weren’t feeling. Almost a year later, Jay-Z dropped his 10th album called American Gangster. American Gangster dropped 15 years ago today. The album was a concept one as the movie starring Denzel Washington of the same name. the album would be the final one under Def Jam and it went platinum. Nas, Lil Wayne, Beanie Sigel, and Pharrell all made appearances on the album. Blue Magic featured Pharrell and it was a smooth track and different from anything off Kingdom Come.

Roc Boys (And the Winner Is) was the second single and it featured Beanie Sigel. This was the better track because the beat is crazy, and Jay was spittin’. I Know was the third and final single and the one that reached the highest on Billboard. Pharrell was featured again on the track, and it was another dope hit. American Gangster was an upgrade from Kingdom Come as Jay-Z rebounded well on this one. Pray, Ignorant Shit, American Dreamin’, Roc Boys and Hello Brooklyn 2.0 are my top 5 tracks.
