Kendrick Lamar is one of the greatest rappers to touch a mic in the last 10 years. There have been many to go on and say he’s one of the best ever. Section 80 was a great project that many fans are still unaware about. His major label debut, Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City was an instant classic. It’s hard to believe that album will be turning 10 years old later this year. Kendrick Lamar have kept a low profile ever since he dropped his Damn album. He finally reappeared as part of the historical Super Bowl Halftime Show with Dr. Dre, Snoop, Eminem and Mary J. Blige. Kendrick released Damn 5 years ago today. Before the Super Bowl, the last time we heard anything regarding him was his forthcoming project is his final one with Top Dog. Damn went on to go triple platinum as it solidified him as great.
We knew the album was around the corner when Kendrick dropped The Heart Pt. 4. Kendrick killed that song and told everyone they had to April 7th to get their stuff together. A week later he dropped the first official single for the album. Humble was the name and it was a smash-hit. Humble went 7x platinum and won countless awards. Loyalty featuring Rihanna was the second single from the album. Loyalty went double platinum and it was a really dope track also. The final track Kendrick dropped as a single was Love. Love went on to go 4x platinum and it was another smash. Damn was definitely one of the his best albums. The only issue is that he hasn’t dropped another album or single ever since. Damn racked up a plethora of awards that included best rap and hip hop album of the year.
Damn even won an Pulitzer in the music category. Whenever Kendrick Lamar decides to drop another album it will be met with high expectations. God, Duckworth, Love, Loyalty and Fear are probably my top 5 from the album. The album is so great that my top 5 changes depending on how I’m feeling.
