Kool Moe Dee How Ya Like Me Now for Throwback Thursday

The rappers from the 80s were influential in me falling in love with hip hop. We all mention Rakim, Kane, KRS-One, Slick Rick, and LL Cool J as the ones that made us fans. There are a few others like Special Ed and my featured artist for this week. Kool Moe Dee was one of those rappers that made me love hip hop at a young age. How Ya Like Me Now was a great track and the video was crazy to me. Kool Moe Dee was the coolest rapper in the world to me after seeing the video. The swag, his voice and his delivery were the first things that stood out to me. How Ya Like Me Now was the name of his second album and it went platinum. During this time, it was a big deal for a rap album to go platinum.

Hip hop was just being accepted by the people when others thought it would come and go. Kool Moe Dee was one of the few to attempt that feat in that era. Kool Moe Dee had his fair share of rivals and one being LL Cool J. Moe Dee takes musical aim at rival rapper LL Cool J, by crushing a red Kangol hat under the front wheel of the Jeep Wrangler in the backdrop. The long running feud began when Kool Moe Dee claimed that LL had stolen his rap style. He also felt that LL was disrespecting rap pioneers like Melle Mel and Grandmaster Caz, by proclaiming that he was “rap’s new grandmaster” without paying due respect to those who came before him. How Ya Like Me Now is my featured Throwback Thursday joint. Check out the track listing and stream link to the album below.
