Nas Got Ur Self A for Throwback Thursday

Nas has etched his name as being one of the greatest to ever do it. The 6 albums run he’s had over the last three years is nothing but legendary. The King’s Disease and Magic trilogies with Hit Boy produced a lot of great music. After releasing 17 studio albums in almost 30 years is an unprecedented feat for anyone. Illmatic has been called one of the greatest hip hop albums ever. With that debut, Nas set the standards and cemented himself early as one of rap’s greatest storytellers. It Was Written was released a couple years later and it was just as good as Illmatic. In 1999, Nas released two albums in I Am and Nastradamus. I Am was supposed to be a double album, but it turned into one after it was bootlegged. There are rumors that we will get the I Am double album soon.
In 2001, Nas was embattled in a legendary feud with Jay-Z. After Nastradamus was labeled not a good album, Nas returned with the Stillmatic joint. Stillmatic is one of my favorite Nas albums and it delivered. Stillmatic was a commercial and critical success and helped re-establish Nas’s career. Ether is the track that gets a lot of attention because it was a crazy diss record towards Jay-Z. There were a lot of great tracks off the album, but the second single is my featured Throwback Thursday track. Got Ur Self A is the name of the record, and the video is great also. The music video features Nas in a church confessional. It pays respect to The Notorious B.I.G. and 2Pac by depicting the two rappers being shot. The photos transition to video, in which Nas is the actor. Check the track listing and stream link to Stillmatic below.
