Outkast is viewed as one of the greatest rap groups of all time. Billboard named them as the greatest group of all-time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip hop. In 1994, they were introduced to the world with the Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik album. Two years later, they switched up their style with the ATLiens project. A couple of years after that, Outkast came back with their third album. The album is called Aquemini, and it has been called one of the greatest albums of all time. Outkast Aquemini dropped 25 years ago today. Aquemini has been included in several publications’ best album lists. One publication called it the best hip hop album of all-time from Atlanta. Aquemini went double platinum and was damn near a flawless album. Goodie Mob, George Clinton, Raekwon, and Erykah Badu all appeared on the project. Skew It on the Bar-B was the first single released off Aquemini.
Raekwon was featured on Skew It on the Bar-B and it was one of the highlights of the album. Raekwon, Andre 3000, and Big Boi all brought the heat for the track, and it was an instant classic. The second single was the controversial track called Rosa Parks. Rosa Parks sued Outkast and LaFace Records over the song. They settled in April of 2005 for an undisclosed amount of cash. They also agreed to work with Parks to help create educational programs before she died in October. Despite the controversy, many people have said this is one of their best tracks. The third and final single from Aquemini was Da Art of Storytellin’ (Pt.1). This was another track that many people have labeled one of their best songs also. The single version featured none other than the legendary, storytelling Slick Rick.
In my opinion, the Aquemini album is one of my favorite albums of all time. You can play this album from the beginning to the end without skipping a track.
