The Memphis and Golden State series kicked off on Sunday. The other Western Conference semifinal matchup should be an intriguing one. The Phoenix Suns hosts the Dallas Mavericks for the right to advance to the Western Conference Finals. The Suns were battle tested in the first round as it took six games to eliminate the New Orleans Pelicans. Despite Luka missing the first two games, the Mavericks eliminated the Utah Jazz in six games also. Devin Booker also missed a couple games in the first round also. Booker returned in Game 6 after missing the previous three with a hamstring injury. In his return, Devin Booker scored 12 points so will he have any lingering affects of his hamstring injury in this round? Can this Mavericks team contain DeAndre Ayton in this series? Will the supporting cast of Luka continue to strive?
Phoenix comes into this sweeping the season series from the Dallas Mavericks. Luka Doncic missed two of those games, but this Suns team is on a mission. Phoenix was the best team the entire season and it seems like Chris Paul is focused. Chris Paul is a future Hall-Of-Famer, and he still haven’t captured that elusive ring. Luka Doncic is looked at as one of the best players in the league. When the Mavericks made the trade to bring in Spencer Dinwiddie, it made them a serious contender. While Luka was hurt in those first two games, Jalen Brunson showed he can carry a team also. The Suns are a much better all-around defensive team because of their perimeter defenders. Mikal Bridges and Jae Crowder will give the Maverick guards fits throughout the series.
If both teams are healthy, this could be a special series, but will homecourt be the key for the Suns? Can this Suns team slow down Luka? Will Devin Booker and his hamstring be ready for the series? Can the Mavericks upset the defending Western Conference champs and take that next step? Can Chris Paul continue to will this team and put them on his back at times? While we can focus on Devin Booker, Chris Paul or Luka Doncic, the key will be DeAndre Ayton. Unfortunately, there is no one on the Mavericks team that can check the big man. This should be a series where he could dominate and help the Suns advance to the Western Conference Finals. Phoenix Win Series 4-1
