Week 13 of the NFL season is in the books, and we have five weeks remaining. In the NFC, the only division that has been decided is the NFC North. Minnesota can clinch the NFC North with a win over Detroit this week. In the AFC, the East and North are the only two that appears headed down to the wire. Despite a two-game losing streak, the Tennessee Titans hold a 3-game lead over Jacksonville and Indianapolis. The Kansas City Chiefs lead the Los Angeles Chargers by three games, and they hold a victory over them. As you can see, there is a lot of meaningful football to be played. My Week 13 NFL predictions produced a 6-1 record. The Washington Commanders and New York Giants ended in a tie, so it didn’t count. My overall record jumped to 73-39. The winning percentage rose from 63.8 to 65.2%.
My only defeat came when the Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Kansas City Chiefs. This marked the 3rd consecutive win Joe Burrow has over Patrick Mahomes including last year’s AFC title game. With the loss, Buffalo took over the top spot in the AFC after their win over New England. Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Las Vegas all had big wins as they’re trying to make a playoff run. The Eagles continue to look for respect after manhandling the Tennessee Titans 35-10. San Francisco beat Miami 33-17 to solidify its defense as the best in the league. On Sunday Night, the Dallas Cowboys destroyed the Indianapolis Colts 54-19. Dallas scored 33 points in the 4th quarter to distances themselves from the Colts. Tom Brady had an improbable comeback on Monday against the Saints to win 17-16. I’ll be predicting 8 games this week so let’s see how things will go.
As always, we start things off with the Thursday Night game on Amazon Prime Video. The Las Vegas Raiders head back to Los Angeles to battle the defending champion Rams. After starting the season 2-7, Las Vegas have won three consecutive games. Josh Jacobs has been on a tear on his way to becoming one of the top RBs in the league. Davante Adams has hit his stride and dominating opposing secondaries in the process. Can the Raiders make it four in a row? Los Angeles has dropped six in a row and Matthew Stafford is out for the year. The Rams claimed Baker Mayfield off waivers, could he see action in this one? With the Rams basically out of playoff consideration, how will the defending champions play in this contest? I’m picking Las Vegas to win their fourth in a row. Raiders Win 27-20
This is a matchup of two AFC East teams that’s eyeing the division and playoff spots. The New York Jets travel to Buffalo to battle the division leading Bills. The Jets currently hold the final Wild Card spot over the Chargers and Patriots. Mike White seems to be the solution for this team moving forward. The defense of New York is only giving up less than 19 points a game. Can they upset the division leaders? Buffalo have won three in a row and are now the leaders in the AFC. Unfortunately, they got bad news that Von Miller will miss the rest of the season with a partially torn ACL. The defense has faced several injuries, but this could hurt them moving forward. Buffalo should emerge as the winners in this one. Bills Win 27-17
We stay in the AFC, but this time we’re heading to the AFC North. The Cleveland Browns make the trip to Cincinnati to battle the Bengals. Cleveland have won two in a row and still have an outside shot at the playoffs. Deshaun Watson returned to the field for the first time in almost two years. As expected, he was rusty, and the defense carried them to the win over Houston. They won’t be so lucky this week and he will need to channel his 2020 campaign for them to have a shot. Cincinnati is currently on a 4-game winning streak and Joe Burrow is playing into MVP consideration. Ja’Marr Chase just returned a couple games ago and now they’ll have Joe Mixon. I’m picking Cincinnati to win their 5th consecutive game. Bengals Win 24-17
In Week 14, who thought the Minnesota Vikings taking on the Detroit Lions would be a big game? Minnesota heads to Detroit to battle the Lions for a chance to clinch the division. The Vikings hold the second-best overall record in the league at 10-2. With the blowout loss to Dallas a few weeks back, many still don’t see them as a threat. Justin Jefferson is arguably the best WR in the league. The defense is not as good as the other top teams in the league. The Lions have won four of their last five games. The only loss came on Thanksgiving, and it was to Buffalo, and it was only by 3 points. Detroit is two games out of the final Wild Card spot. They are playing some inspired ball on both sides. I’m going with Minnesota to win. Vikings Win 34-31
We head to the NFC East for this key matchup. The Philadelphia Eagles begin their 3-game road trip in New York to face the Giants. The Eagles haven’t been getting the respect from others despite having the best record in the league. Last week, they kind of opened a lot of eyes after beating Tennessee 35-10. The defense looked amazing last week, and Jalen Hurts is atop of many people’s MVP charts. Can the Eagles continue their winning ways in New York? After starting 6-1, the Giants have hit a rough patch the last month. New York is winless in their last three games and 4 of their last 5. Philly is on a roll and should win this one in New York. Eagles Win 34-21
We travel to the AFC North for this matchup. The division leading Baltimore Ravens head to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers. Baltimore is tied with the Bengals for the division lead but hold the tiebreaker. Lamar Jackson will miss this game and possibly a few more after this one. Tyler Huntley will get the start in his place and he’s very capable of carrying this team. How will Huntley handle the hostile Pittsburgh crowd? Pittsburgh enters this game with a 5-7 record, but a month ago many thought they’d have a top-5 pick. Kenny Pickett and the Steelers have won three of four and now the defense is healthy. In the last month, the defense has only allowed over 17 points one time. This could be another defensive struggle and I’m picking Pittsburgh to win. Steelers Win 25-21
We head back to the NFC in what could be a playoff matchup. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers travel out west to take on the San Francisco 49ers. The Bucs have quietly won three of four games and taken a 2-game lead in the division. Despite having a down year, the Bucs defense is still a top-5 one in points. The offense is still having issues scoring points. Tom Brady will need protection like he’s never had against this Niners defense. San Francisco have won 5 in a row and now have taken the lead in the NFC West. Unfortunately, they loss Jimmy Garoppolo last week for the season. Kyle Shanahan has a way of having a quarterback friendly offense and Brock Purdy should be fine. San Francisco should leave with a win in the defensive battle. 49ers Win 20-13
We have the Sunday Night game in a battle between two of the better young signal callers. Tua Tagovailoa and Miami will battle Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers. Miami remains on the west coast after playing in San Francisco a week ago. The Dolphins 5-game winning streak ended at the hands of the 49ers. These two teams are separated by two games in the Wild Card playoff hunt. Miami is seeking to start another winning streak by beating the Chargers. Los Angeles is tied with New England in being a game out of the playoffs. Los Angeles has a chance to run the table after this game due to their favorable schedule. How will the secondary fare against Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle? This is a tough one, but I’m going with Los Angeles. Chargers Win 30-27
We have the Monday Night game as the New England Patriots head to Arizona to battle the Cardinals. The Patriots have dropped two in a row after going on a 3-game winning streak. The last two losses came against two of the best teams in Buffalo and Minnesota. New England is tied with the Chargers being behind the Jets for the last playoff spot. New England need this win because they have a brutal remaining schedule. Can this Patriots defense slow down Kyler Murray and the Cardinals? Arizona have dropped four of their last five games. The offense is mostly in the middle of the pack in production. The defense is one of the worse in the league. This is a recipe for trouble and New England should win. Patriots Win 31-21
