The regular season is finally over and now it’s time for the Super Wild Card Weekend. This is the second time having the Super Wild Card weekend. Last year, the NFL decided to add an additional team in both conferences. The top seed are the only ones that will have a bye week. My predictions for the season finale had me finishing 9-4. The overall mark for the 2022 season is 113-54. My winning percentage went from 67.5 to 67.7% which is the best I’ve ever finished with. The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the New York Giants to earn the top spot in the NFC. Kansas City beat the Las Vegas Raiders to become the top seed in the AFC. San Francisco is arguably the favorite to advance to the Super Bowl along with the Eagles in the NFC.
Buffalo, Kansas City and Cincinnati are looked at as the favorites in the AFC. Buffalo will host the Miami Dolphins in an AFC East battle. Baltimore will travel to Cincinnati to battle their AFC North rival. The Los Angeles Chargers will travel across the country to Jacksonville to meet the Jaguars. The San Francisco 49ers will host their NFC West rival Seattle Seahawks. Minnesota will host the New York Giants in a rematch from earlier in the season. Finally, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers host the Dallas Cowboys in a Week 1 rematch. As we all know, the lowest seed will travel to meet the top seed in the Divisional Round. How will the Super Wild Card weekend turn out? Will there be any upsets? Let’s get this started!
We kick the weekend off with the Seattle Seahawks visiting the San Francisco 49ers. Seattle got into the playoffs first by beating the Rams. Detroit beat Green Bay on Sunday Night and that catapulted them into the playoffs. Geno Smith had an amazing season and will get Comeback Player of the Year consideration. The Seahawks played the 49ers twice this season and lost both contests. Despite having one of the worse scoring defenses they held their own against the Niners offense. With San Francisco, everyone has placed them in the NFC championship game. They are the hottest team entering the playoffs seeing they have won 10 games in a row. The defense is arguably the best in the league, and they have one of the more unstoppable offenses. I’m picking San Francisco to beat Seattle for the 3rd time. 49ers Win 34-20
We head to the AFC for the Saturday Night game. The Los Angeles Chargers travels to Jacksonville to meet the Jaguars. The Chargers were on a 4-game winning streak until they lost their season finale. The starters were pulled because Baltimore lost earlier, and the Chargers secured the 5th spot. Many believe they would rather face Jacksonville on the road than going to Cincinnati. Los Angeles is a dangerous team entering the playoffs. Will Mike Williams be healthy for this one? Jacksonville had one of the greatest turnarounds this past season. After starting the season with a 2-6 record, they finished the second half with a 7-2 record. They finished the season on a 5-game winning streak and won the AFC South. This should be a great battle, but I’m going with the road team to win. Chargers Win 27-24
This is the first game of a triple header on Sunday. The Miami Dolphins travels up north to Buffalo to meet the Bills. These two teams split their games this season with both winning at home. With New England losing to the Bills, Miami defeated New York to get into the playoffs. The win over the New York Jets ended their 5-game losing streak. Tua is still in concussion protocol and Raheem Mostert has a broken thumb. Can the Dolphins compete against Buffalo on the road? With the great news about Damar Hamlin, Buffalo will have more motivation to win this game. The Bills have been one of the favorites to come out of the AFC since the beginning of the season. With Miami dealing with too much I’m taking Buffalo. Bills Win 31-17
The second game on Sunday will see the New York Giants visit Minnesota again to face the Vikings. This Giants team fell to the Vikings 27-24 less than a month ago. Despite not having their 5th years options picked up, Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley had career years. Barkley and Jones will be key for the offense to get going. New York ranks in the top-5 in rushing this season. Can they defeat the Vikings this time in Minnesota? The Vikings rebounded from being blown out by Green Bay and defeated the Bears. The running game of Minnesota took a few steps back this season. Dalvin Cook rushed for almost 1200 yards, but the Vikings rank near the bottom five in rushing. I’m skeptical about Kirk Cousins in this game, but he’ll do enough for the win. Vikings Win 24-23
The finale on Sunday Night will featured the top two teams from the AFC North. The Baltimore Ravens will head to Cincinnati to battle the division winning Bengals. The big question going into this game in the availability of Lamar Jackson. Jackson has missed the last six games with a sprained knee. The Ravens fell to this Bengals team in the season finale. In the 5th game of the year, this Ravens team beat the Bengals 19-17 with Jackson playing. Cincinnati haven’t lost a game in over a couple of months. Cincinnati has looked like the team that made a Super Bowl run a year ago. The Bengals enter this contest healthy. For me, it doesn’t matter if Lamar Jackson plays or not because Cincinnati is on a mission and will win. Bengals Win 26-17
The final game of the Super Wild Card weekend takes place on Monday Night. The Dallas Cowboys heads to Tampa to take on the Buccaneers. Dallas fell to this Tampa Bay team in the season opener 19-3. Both teams look different heading into this game. The Cowboys won 75% of their games after the loss to Tampa. The Bucs went 7-9 the rest of the season and looked like a different team. The Cowboys looked horrible in their season finale against Washington. Many are concerned about Dak and his turnovers. My biggest concern about the Bucs is their lack of running the ball. With the inability to run the ball, Dallas will focus on defending the ball in the air. Tom Brady will throw a couple of picks out of frustration and Dallas wins. Cowboys Win 31-20
