Trav’s 2022 Week 9 NFL Predictions

Week 8 is in the books, and we had a lot going on last week. My record for my Week 8 predictions was 5-3 and my overall mark is 47-27. My winning percentage went from 63.6 to 63.5% which is about the same. Despite the 49ers owning the Rams in recent years, my first loss was choosing Los Angeles to beat San Francisco. Seattle looks like they are legit. My second loss came when the Seahawks beat the Giants to remain atop of the NFC West. The third and final loss came on Monday Night Football. The Browns embarrassed the Cincinnati Bengals by beating them 32-13. Cincinnati is without Ja’Marr Chase for 4-6 weeks after he suffered a hip injury. The NFL trade deadline came and went, and we had a lot of moves by teams looking to make a deep playoff run.

Baltimore beat Tampa Bay last Thursday to begin the week. Tampa Bay is currently on a 3-game losing streak. The Atlanta Falcons took over the NFC South in controversial fashion by beating Carolina in OT. Philadelphia, Buffalo, Minnesota, and Dallas continue to roll. The trade deadline began with Christian McCaffrey to the 49ers, which is paying dividends. Philadelphia bolstered up their defensive line by adding Robert Quinn. Miami added a key piece on both sides of the ball. They traded for Bradley Chubb to help the defense and Jeff Wilson to add depth at the running back position. Baltimore added tackling specialist in Roquan Smith from the Chicago Bears. The Bears finally got Justin Fields a big receiver in Chase Claypool from Pittsburgh. The teams in the NFC East combine for almost a 75% winning percentage as we head into this week. I’ll be predicting a total of 9 games.

Trav’s 2022 Week 9 NFL PredictionsTrav’s 2022 Week 9 NFL PredictionsWe kick off Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime Video with a unique matchup. The team with the best record in the league will face off with arguably the worse squad. The Philadelphia Eagles head to Houston to do battle with the Texans. The Eagles remain the only undefeated team in the league. Jalen Hurts has played himself into being a frontrunner for league MVP. The defense has only gotten better with the addition of Robert Quinn. Houston looks like they are playing to get the top pick in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft. Despite their woes, this Houston team plays hard on both sides of the ball. There have been crazy things to happen in sports and if the Texans beat the Eagles, it would be one of them. Philadelphia should easily handle Houston though. Eagles Win 38-20

Trav’s 2022 Week 9 NFL PredictionsTrav’s 2022 Week 9 NFL PredictionsWe have a battle between two of the more surprising teams in the league for different reasons. The Los Angeles Chargers head down to Atlanta to face the Falcons. The Chargers were picked by many to be one of the best teams in the AFC and Super Bowl contenders. The Chargers seemed to have turn things around, but Seattle ended their 3-game winning streak. Can Los Angeles rebound and turn things around after their bye week? Atlanta didn’t make any major moves before the trade deadline. They currently sit atop of the NFC South after edging the Panthers. This is one feisty Falcons team that seems to never give up. How will Marcus Mariota fare against this speedy Chargers defense? This is a tough one, but I’m still on the bandwagon of Los Angeles. Chargers Win 27-24

Trav’s 2022 Week 9 NFL PredictionsTrav’s 2022 Week 9 NFL PredictionsWhen it comes to these teams you always think about Peyton Manning versus Tom Brady. The Indianapolis Colts head to Foxboro to take on the New England Patriots. We now have Sam Ehlinger battling Mac Jones for this one. The Colts have dropped two in a row and that includes the heartbreaking loss to Washington last week. With Jonathon Taylor back from injury, the Colts sent Nyheim Hines to the Buffalo Bills. How will Ehlinger fare against the Patriots at Foxboro? New England defeated the Jets last week to move to 500 for the season. New England is in the middle of a tough stretch of games. After this game, they play the Jets and Bills at home and the Vikings on the road. They need to win this game and I believe they will. Patriots Win 27-17

Trav’s 2022 Week 9 NFL PredictionsTrav’s 2022 Week 9 NFL PredictionsWe have an AFC East matchup between two teams that’s looking for a playoff run. The Buffalo Bills will head to the Meadowlands to battle the New York Jets. Buffalo is still the best team in the AFC, but Josh Allen struggled last week by throwing two picks. Buffalo should get help in their secondary as the team will activate Tre’Davious White. Devin Singletary has been great running the ball, but the Bills gave him some help with Nyheim Himes. Will Josh Allen rebound with a monster game? With the Jets, they have everything in place to make a playoff run. Unfortunately, Zach Wilson isn’t developing at the rate they need him to. They lost Breece Hall for the season but added James Robinson in the backfield. Buffalo should emerge as victorious again. Bills Win 31-20

Trav’s 2022 Week 9 NFL PredictionsTrav’s 2022 Week 9 NFL PredictionsWe head back to the NFC for this matchup. The Minnesota Vikings head to Washington to meet the Commanders. Minnesota lost Irv Smith to injury, but they traded for T.J. Hockenson of the Lions. The trade will open the offense for Minnesota so it’s all on Kirk Cousins moving forward. The defense still has some cleaning up to do, but this team was one of my favorites at the start of the year. After losing 4 games in a row, the Commanders have roared back, and they are now on a 3-game winning streak. They have won those three games in a row by a combined 8 points. Taylor Heinicke continues to impress in relief of Carson Wentz. Can he continue his stellar play? The defense hasn’t given up over 21 points in a month. This will be a tough task to ask of the defense and I’m picking Minnesota to win. Vikings Win 24-21

Trav’s 2022 Week 9 NFL PredictionsTrav’s 2022 Week 9 NFL PredictionsWe head on over to the NFC West for this critical matchup. The 1st place Seattle Seahawks head to Arizona to battle the last place Cardinals. Seattle have won three games in a row and Geno Smith is quietly looking like an MVP candidate. Kenneth Walker III is looking like he’s one of the best running backs in the league and he’s a rookie. The defense has improved over that 3-game span. Being at the half-way mark, this is a must-win for the Arizona Cardinals. The offense is starting to pick up steam with the return of DeAndre Hopkins. The defense needs to improve and if they’re going to be contenders this is the time. These NFC West matchups are hard to choose because they can beat each other any given time. Cardinals Win 31-27

Trav’s 2022 Week 9 NFL PredictionsTrav’s 2022 Week 9 NFL PredictionsWe stay in the NFC for this rematch of a classic playoff game from a year ago. The Los Angeles Rams head down south to Tampa to face the Bucs. These two teams met in the playoffs last year and the Rams won the instant classic on their way to winning the Super Bowl. The defending champions enter this game with a losing record after three of their last four games. Will Cam Akers return to the team after not being traded? Will it help this offense? Tampa Bay won their first two games of the season but have dropped 5 of 6 heading into this matchup. With Tom Brady finally getting over his personal matter, will it lead to them winning games? Can this Tampa team turn things around and make a run in the NFC South? This is a hard one, but I’m picking Los Angeles to win this one. Rams Win 30-20

Trav’s 2022 Week 9 NFL PredictionsTrav’s 2022 Week 9 NFL PredictionsWe have the Sunday Night game and it’s a battle between two of the best teams in the AFC. The Tennessee Titans make that trip to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs. The Titans is currently riding a 5-game winning streak and Derrick Henry continues to break records. Henry posted another 200-yard rushing game last week in their win over Houston. The only issue with their winning streak is that no team they beat is over 500. How will the Titans defense fare against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs great offense? The Chiefs have won three of four games and Mahomes is playing at an MVP level again. Kansas City has the highest scoring offense in the league and currently ranked second in passing. The defense is giving up almost 26 points a game in their last four games. Kansas City should come away with the win in this one. Chiefs Win 30-17

Trav’s 2022 Week 9 NFL PredictionsTrav’s 2022 Week 9 NFL PredictionsThe Monday Night game will see the Baltimore Ravens travel to New Orleans to battle the Saints. Baltimore sits atop of their division after winning three of their last four games. The Ravens added help to their defense after they traded for Roquan Smith. Having Smith to anchor the defense will help them improve and could take them to another level? Will the Ravens become a more elite team in the AFC? New Orleans ended their 2-game losing streak in impressive fashion last week against the Raiders. Alvin Kamara looked like himself last week with his 3 TD performance. Can the offense feed off last week’s performance? Will the defense build off their shoutout of the Raiders from a week ago? This is a tough one, but Baltimore should get by the Saints on the road. Ravens Win 24-20
