Last, but not least we come to final division in the NFL. We have the NFC West where this could be a three team race. We have already determined who should win in the East, North and South. The Arizona Cardinals are hoping to have an entire season like the first half of last year. The Los Angeles Rams are the defending Super Bowl champions. Los Angeles have all the pieces in place to make another run at the championship. San Francisco is handing the keys over to their first round pick in Trey Lance. However he plays will determine how far this 49ers team will go. Seattle seems to be in a rebuild mode without saying they’re rebuilding. Who leaves 2022 as the NFC West champions?
The Arizona Cardinals had an eventful offseason to say the least. After the season, Kyler Murray expressed he want to be traded. They worked things out and signed him to a massive contract extension. DeAndre Hopkins will be suspended the first six games of the season due to PEDs. They managed to re-sign Zach Ertz and James Conner to extensions. On the defensive side, they took a massive hit by losing Chandler Jones and Jordan Phillips. Arizona will struggle without Hopkins the first six games because they also lost Christian Kirk to free agency also. The Cardinals should finish in third place this season.
Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams were the Super Bowl champions from a year ago. The trade for Matthew Stafford and other moves vaulted this franchise to the title. They kept a lot of their talent that help with the championship. Cooper Kupp signed an extension as did Stafford. To help an already impressive receiving core, the Rams went out and signed Allen Robinson. While the Rams lost Von Miller during free agency, they picked up Bobby Wagner from Seattle. Wagner is a future Hall-of-Famer and is still a tackling machine. I’m picking the Rams to win the NFC West this season.
San Francisco 49ers
The era of Trey Lance is upon us in San Francisco. The 49ers are still looking for a trade partner for Jimmy Garoppolo. With a new and young quarterback, the 49ers made a mistake by letting Laken Tomlinson leave in free agency. The Niners did finally extend Deebo Samuel, which was smart. They added Marcus Johnson to an already good receiving core. It all will depend on the growth of Trey Lance for this organization. They have a great offense in place for him to succeed. The other key to the 49ers success is also their health. San Francisco have dealt with their fair share of injuries over the past couple seasons. I’m still picking them to finish second in the division behind the Rams.
The Seahawks will likely take a few steps back this coming season. Last year, they didn’t make the playoffs for the first time in a long time. Seattle finally traded Russell Wilson to get some draft picks towards their future. The Seahawks will turn to either Drew Lock or Geno Smith to be the signal caller this season. If trading Wilson wasn’t bad enough, running back Chris Carson was forced to retire due to a lingering neck injury. The good news is that D.K. Metcalf signed an extension with the team. There were rumors that he could be traded to go into a full rebuild mode. With so much uncertainties, this will be a long season in the Pacific Northwest.
