We have looked at the AFC East, North and South, so now it’s time to see who wins the AFC West. The Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers seemed to be the teams to beat. The offseason moves made by the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders made the AFC West arguably the toughest. The Chiefs, Broncos, Raiders and Chargers all can make a case for who’s the best team. With Denver finally getting a franchise quarterback, can they make that next step? Will Los Angeles put everything together and make a playoff run? Will the moves made by the Raiders by off with them winning the division? Can the Chiefs continue to be the leaders of the AFC West? Let’s see who win the AFC West this upcoming campaign.
The Denver Broncos made some significant moves during the offseason. Most notably, they traded for Russell Wilson and the excitement is back in Bronco Country. Denver already has a plethora of weapons on offense for Wilson to enjoy. The offensive line is much better than the one he left in Seattle. Denver should have a much improved offense to challenge for the AFC West crown. They also upgraded on the defensive side of the ball. They signed Randy Gregory to a monster five-year deal. If Gregory can produce like he did in Dallas, this team could scare people. They also brought in D.J. Jones from the 49ers to bolster up their defensive line.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs were the team to beat for some years, but the other teams are creeping up on them. They failed to reach the Super Bowl, which is something we’ve expected of them ever since Patrick Mahomes took over. Tyreek Hill was an intricate part of their franchise, but he was traded away. Kansas City have signed Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Juju Smith-Schuster to bolster the receiving core. To help in the backfield, Kansas City brought in Ronald Jones. If healthy, Jones can revive his career and add another dynamic to the offense. The major issue for the Chiefs is their defense and losing Tyrann Mathieu could hurt them.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders are going all in this season and moving forward. They made a monstrous trade by acquiring Davante Adams from the Packers. After trading for him, they gave him a huge contract extension. Las Vegas also gave Derek Carr an extension to show confidence that he’s their starter moving forward. The Raiders signed one of the best pass rushers in the game in Chandler Jones. Patrick Graham as the defensive coordinator is an upgrade from a year ago. Can the Raiders stay healthy and become the team to beat in the AFC West?
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers were already a team moving the right direction. They have made huge strides ever since Justin Herbert became the starting QB. Like Joe Burrow, this could be the year where Herbert is in the MVP conversation. Mike Williams received a raise and with Keenan Allen, they will continue to reign terror over opposing defenses. The defense received plenty of upgrades also. The Chargers made a blockbuster trade for Khalil Mack during the offseason. They also signed JC Jackson to help an already impressive secondary. Derwin James has said he wants a new contract, so we need to see how that plays out. Can the Chargers make that jump and win the AFC West this season?
