The WWE had the follow-up to WrestleMania 38 on Sunday. WrestleMania Backlash featured six matches with all of them rematches from the grandest stage of all. The only championship that was defended was Charlotte Flair putting up her SmackDown Women’s title against Ronda Rousey. We thought we were getting a tag title unification match between the Usos and RK-Bro. During the contract signing a couple weeks ago, Roman Reigns interfered and ripped apart the contract. After attacking RK-Bro, Drew McIntryre made the save and it became a 6-man tag match. The returning “American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes battled Seth Rollins in part two of their series. Happy Corbin took on his former partner in Madcap Moss while Bobby Lashley took on Omos. We also saw Edge battle A.J. Styles at the premium live event also. Let’s see what happened at the WrestleMania Backlash Premium Live Event.
Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins kicked off the event with a much-anticipated rematch. As we all know, Rhodes returned to the WWE after a six-year hiatus at WrestleMania to be the mystery opponent for Rollins. They continued their feud which led to the rematch. The match was just as good as the first one in a battle between two of the best wrestlers on the planet. Rollins started out getting the best of Cody, but Rhodes quickly turned the tables on him. This was a physical contest with both hitting some big spots. Rhodes hit the Pedigree on Rollins after Seth attempted it earlier in the match. Rollins mocked Rhodes as he attempted to the American Dream punches and bionic elbow. In the end, Rhodes outsmarted Rollins by using the rollup and grabbing the tights for the win after Seth tried it. Winner: American Nightmare Cody Rhodes
Match Rating: 4/5
We had Bobby Lashley battling Omos, who’s accompanied by MVP who used to be the manager of Lashley. As we all know, MVP turned on Lashley leading to this feud. Lashley won their matchup at WrestleMania, but could he make it two in a row? This was a physical matchup as expected, but Omos need to continue to train to improve. MVP got involved in the match a couple of times which was expected. After striking Lashley while the referee wasn’t looking, Omos hit his chokeslam for the win. Winner: Omos
Match Rating: 2.5/5
Edge took on the “Phenomenal” A.J. Styles as these two continued to feud on Monday Night Raw. Damian Priest got involved, which brough Finn Balor to aid Styles in the process. Styles defeated Priest on Raw and that lead to him being barred from ringside. This match was much better than their match at WrestleMania. Edge worked on the arm and shoulder of Styles seeing he and Priest injured it a few weeks ago. We also saw some nearfalls and the action was fast paced. Unfortunately, Damian Priest made an appearance in aisle during the match and the referee turned his attention to him. Styles had to go to the top rope to try and deliver the Phenomenal Forearm because his shoulder injury. There was a mystery figured that appeared ringside as Balor took out Priest. The figure knocked Styles from the top rope allowing Edge to put him in a cross face and then sleeper for the win. Winner: Edge
Match Rating: 3.75/5- As mentioned before, the match was much better, and the mystery figure entered the ring after the match. The figure was revealed to be Rhea Ripley as she was rumored to be a part of Edge’s stable.
This was the only championship match at the WrestleMania Backlash premium live event. Charlotte Flair defended the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Ronda Rousey in a “I Quit” match. The WrestleMania match didn’t go over with the fans as many wanted. This match was a different story as they put on a great match. These two beat the hell out of each other with chairs, kendo sticks and whatever they could find. They fought into the stands, and we almost had Flair make Rousey submit. They continued the outside and then back into the ring. Flair locked in the Figure 8, and we thought Rousey was about to submit. Flair was about to use the chair and yelled Happy Mother’s Day, but Rousey reversed it into an armbar. Flair said I Quit, and Rousey won the match. Winner and New SmackDown Women’s Champ: Ronda Rousey
Match rating: 4.25/5
This was a battle between former partners as Madcap Moss battled Happy Corbin. This was a relatively short matchup between the former best friends. They fought and Corbin gained control towards the end of the match. Corbin tries to come up, but Moss fights him off. Moss misses a diving clothesline from the second rope and Corbin hits Deep Six for a 2-count. Corbin hits a running splash in the corner. A second one misses, and Moss goes for a sunset flip and that gets the pin. Winner: Madcap Moss
Match Rating: 3/5
We had the main event for the WrestleMania backlash Premium Live Event. The Bloodline battled Drew McIntrye and RK-Bro. All six of these guys fought everywhere and the crowd showed appreciation in the process. They were chanting “This is Awesome” and for good reason because the match was amazing. Towards the end, they all were on the outside fighting with bodies everywhere. Riddle and Jey fight back into the ring where Jey hits a superkick. Jey climbs to the top rope. Riddle runs up to the top turnbuckle and brings Jey down with an RKO. But Reigns immediately follows with a spear to pin Riddle. Winners: The Bloodline
Match Rating: 4.25/5
